Gardening Tips - Extending the life of your garden
It’s not too late to reap more from your vegetable garden.
Here are a few tips:
- Fertilize. Side dress tomato plants with nitrogen fertilizer when fruit is well set to encourage size and flavor. Every 4-6 weeks.
- Reduce watering. If fruit has reached full or nearly full size, cut back on watering to encourage ripening. Water every 7-10 days.
- Pick excess fruit. Ripening fruit takes a good deal of energy from leaves
- Trim suckers. If they have fuzzy “future” roots you can re-plant. Remove lower leaves and dip stem in rooting hormone. Then plant. Voila! You could have more fruit until the frost comes.
