Gardening Tips - Pollinators

MG county fair
Power to the Pollinators!

Visit the Marin Master Gardeners at the County fair to learn about pollinators.

The Marin Master Gardeners are taking Flower Power up a notch. Can you dig it? This year’s tent is abuzz with plants that attract bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other important pollinators. Entering the world of pollinators is beautiful, inspiring, and educational. Come see how pollination works and why we wouldn’t be here without it. Gain a close-up view and appreciation of our critical pollinators, as well as some lesser known but important players. Did you know that bats and flies are pollinators? What other tiny flying insects play a role? What’s the difference between honey bees and California native bees? What about the flowers themselves? How have their shapes, colors, and fragrances evolved to attract pollinators? The world of pollination has some distinct surprises. It’s groovy, man!

Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions and guide visitors to create gardens that welcome pollinators and ultimately benefit the safety and health of our food supply. Speakers will lead short presentations twice daily at 2 and 4 pm. Signage and hands-on activities will be available all day in the tent.
