Have you noticed little yellow mushrooms growing in your houseplants?

This fungus is often Lepiota lutea and is fairly common. The fungus uses the organic matter in the soil. The good news is that it is not fatal to your plant. Removing the caps and scraping the soil is the first defense which also keeps children or pets from eating them which could make them sick. Changing the soil or using fungicides is often ineffective because the spores nestle in on the roots.
