Pest of the Month - High Water Consumption
The rules for watering can vary by plant type. Using drip irrigation is the most efficient way to irrigate, allowing drip emitters to be positioned strategically at the plant so water is not wasted on bare ground. Using porous hardscape allows water to penetrate the soil and avoid runoff. Creating swales also keeps water from running off. A 2-3 inch layer of mulch holds water and prevents weeds that thrive on excess moisture. Replacing thirsty lawns is highly recommended and replacing with drought tolerant native plants is a recipe for conservation. Trees require deep watering infrequently at the outer drip line.
