Exploring Habitats - Field Trips of Discovery for Second Grade Students

The “Exploring Habitats” field trip project is co-sponsored by Marin Master Gardeners and the Marin Art & Garden Center (MAGC). Taking place in the inspiring Butterfly Habitat Garden at MAGC, these field trips are educational and enriching to children, exposing them to aspects of nature and the environment and teaching them the concept of a habitat and the interrelatedness of various components of a habitat that they might not receive otherwise. Students delve into four distinct habitats – bird and pollinator garden, ponds, the woodland understory and composting. Some examples of things they may see and learn about are:

• Pond life

• Beneficial insects

• Compost critters

• Woodland trees, understory plants and wildlife

At this time, all Exploring Habitats in-person programs are on hold till further notice. In the meanwhile, please feel free to use our videos and teacher materials below!
