Plant bulbs. Tulips and daffodils will make a beautiful display in the spring. Try some new ones like Scilla, Allium and Camassia.
Plant wildflower seeds with the first winter rains. Look for wildflower packets that have California wildflowers.
Plant drought tolerant native plants. California lilac (Ceanothus), manzanita (Arctostaphylos), California fuschia (Epilobium canum), and coyote bush (Baccharis pilularis) are good choices.
Divide perennials like Agapanthus, Iris, and Salvia. You can move them to a bare spot in your garden or give plant sections away to friends.
Keep your garden tidy. Cut back large established perennials. Pull weeds around new plants. Mulch around shrubs, but keep the mulch away from the trunk.
