JANUARY

WE ARE HEADED INTO A NEW YEAR!  Are you someone who views the glass half-full (lots of rain,we are in fact over 200% of average!) or the glass half-empty (the rains will bring in lots of growth which will dry out and make for lots of fuel in the late summer)?  In any case, we still need to be vigilant and save water.  For those who like to geek out on numbers and stats, check out our rainfall history,  and take a quick look at how our reservoirs are doing.

FOR SOME, A TIME FOR GROWTH, OR TIME FOR REST…With all of the rain we are getting, expect some of your plants to take off!  Like that old mantra for native plants -  first year, “sleep”;  second year, “creep”; and the third year, “leap”.  But for some other plants, you might want to start planning for pruning at the right time.  If you need help in this area, check out our list for aesthetic pruners.

NOW IS THE TIME FOR COVER CROPS:  In addition to the mulch and compost you add to your garden soil, consider cover crops at this time of year, to help your plants in the future.  Check out this video for more information.
