Are you entertaining family and friends this Thanksgiving?

  • November 20, 2021
  • You can decorate your Thanksgiving table with a centerpiece of colorful fall leaves and berries. You can make it totally natural. Sweetgum (Liquidambar) trees have leaves from deep maroon to bright yellow. Japanese maple (Acer) leaves and heavenly bamboo (Nandina domestica) are also a good choice. On Marin trails you can find big leaf maple (Acer macrophyllum) and California black oak (Quercus kelloggii) leaves.  You may also be tempted by the maroon red of poison oak. Remember the old adage, “Leaves of three, leave it be.”

The bright red berries of Cotoneaster, toyon (Heteromeles arbutifolia), and Pyracantha will give a splash of color to your centerpiece. Arrange them creatively, and you will have a natural and colorful decoration for your Thanksgiving table.
