It's time to get started growing California natives in your garden. Planting natives will save water, reduce pesticide use, invite wildlife, support local ecology and are low maintenance. Harvey's Demonstration Garden and the Mediterranean Climate Garden at Falkirk are good places to start looking for natives that might interest you: look for textures and vibrant blooms. UC Master Gardeners have an online water-wise plant guide and information about California natives. We also have a list of suggested native plants according to your garden's environment: sun with water; dry sunny areas; shade with water; and dry shade.
