  • Description and Cultural Plant Tips

This Agastache has striking 3' - 5'  spikes of lavender blue flowers. The leaves have a strong anise or licorice odor. Unlike other members of the mint family, this plant is not invasive and forms  2' clumps. It Is drought tolerant when established. Leaves can be used as a garnish or in cold drinks.Looks great in the back of a perennial border or a cottage garden. Companion plants include the 'Big Sky' Echinaceas, Achillea 'Moonshine', Artemisia, Antirrhinum multiflorum & Hemercallis varietals.

Sun-loving but tolerates some shade. Grows in a wide variety of soils but does best in a native soil enriched with compost. Plant 2 - 3 foot apart with root ball level with soil surface. Must have good drainage for it to overwinter. Cut back spikes as they fade for a longer blooming period. Trim back all woody stems in late fall for more compact plants the next spring.

    Attracts bee, butterflies and hummingbirds.

    No serious pests or diseases.

  • Master Gardener Comments

I use this Agastache at the back of the border. It looks great with pink coneflower, pink muhly, yarrow 'Moonshine', and blue oat grass. Bees love it!
