  • Description and Cultural Plant Tips

    A. densiflorus 'Springeri' has arching stems that can reach 6 foot in lencth. The flowers are insignificant but develop into  bright red, small berries. This fern can be used in pots, grown as a groundcover or trained to climb a trellis. The tiny throns can puncture the skin so gloves should be used when working with this fern.

This fern will grow in any soil but does best with a soil containing lots of compost. It is fairly srought tolerant but does best with regular summer watering (once a week).Mulch well to retain soil moisture. Can be growen in full sun in copastal Marin but does best in dappled afternoon shade in the hooter parts of Marin. Root systen is extensive with many tubers. These tubers are used by the plant for food in drought situations and can also be used for propogation. Cut back in spring for renewed growth.

    No serious pests or diseases.
