Event Details

The Program: Do you enjoy hiking trails? Do you like puzzles? Then this activity is for you! Join us on a trail hike from the gate to Phyllis Ellman Trail in Corte Madera to Turtle Rock at the top of Ring Mountain (elevation 460 feet) and back down through the loop (2+ miles). A plant puzzle handout is given to each participant; you will find the answers to the puzzle through your observations during the hike. Be prepared to hike hills, wear layered clothing, hiking shoes with good traction, hiking poles recommended, and bring water. Do not wear shorts due to abundant poison oak. There are no facilities on the hiking trail. The hike may be cancelled if the ground is wet due to recent rain, or if the Saturday night forecast predicts rain on Sunday morning.

The Speaker: Kam Shadan is a UC Marin Master Gardener, class of 2017. Having lived and explored the outdoors in Marin for more than four decades, Kam has gained knowledge of the area’s natural environment including Ring Mountain, Mount Tamalpais, and Angel Island. His volunteer work includes certification as an Angel Island State Park docent. Kam enjoys learning and sharing Marin County's natural environment through outdoor activities.

Directions:  Meet at the North access gate to the Phyllis Ellman Trail. From Hwy 101 in Corte Madera, take the exit for Tamalpais Drive east. Go straight onto San Clemente, which merges into Paradise Drive after 0.4 miles. Follow Paradise Drive approximately 1 mile (go past Westward Drive). The gate is on the right.
